The Makati City government announced on Friday it will give free chocolate candy bars to children aged 5-11 who get their COVID-19 vaccine shot.

Mayor Abigail Binay said the local government will hand out premium chocolate products to each child after he or she is vaccinated.

“The sweet treat is meant to reward them and, at the same time, make them happy,” she said.

Binay said the city will soon start the vaccination rollout for the said age group at SM Makati and Nemesio I. Yabut Elementary School (NIYES).

She said the venues will serve as the exclusive vaccination sites for 5 to 11-year-olds.

The “no walk-in” policy will be strictly implemented, she added.

The city chief executive urged parents of children in the said age group to have them vaccinated against COVID-19.

“They are among the vulnerable sectors that can suffer serious complications if they get infected,” she said.

She said parents can register their children online and wait for notification on their schedule before going to the vaccination site.

This is to avoid unnecessary travel for their children, she added.

Registration can be accomplished through covid19vaccine.safemakati.com.

Binay also encouraged everyone to take their booster shots for the COVID-19 vaccine to ensure optimal protection against the new variants of the virus.

“The city has opened the booster registration for everyone who wishes to get vaccinated in the city. All they have to do is register in our portal then go to the nearest vaccination site,” she said.

As of Jan. 21, 2022, some 488,858 Makati residents are already fully vaccinated, while the city has already administered 123,696 booster shots.

The Taguig City government is also now preparing for its COVID-19 vaccination program for children aged 5 to 11 years old who are residing or studying in the city.

The city’s public information office said the vaccination will start on Feb. 7 at the SMX Convention Center at SM Aura in Bonifacio Global City and the Lakeshore Vaccination Hub in Bicutan.

Taguig has a total of 9,519 pre-registered 5 to 11 years old ready for vaccination as of Jan.28, 2022.

Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano urged parents to register and book their children for vaccination through trace.taguig.gov.ph.

As of Feb. 4, Taguig has already vaccinated 851,105 individuals or 96 percent of the total population.

Of the number, 788,650 individuals or 89 percent of the total population have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

A total of 1,797,487 jabs have already been administered across Taguig’s vaccination hubs.
