Mayor Isko: Use toll booths as drive-thru facilities for voluntary COVID vax booster

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso is calling for the use of expressway toll booths as drive-thru hubs for COVID-19 vaccine booster shots.

Domagoso, who is running for president in the upcoming May 9 national polls, urged the national government and the private companies running the expressways to consider his suggestion in the light of the soaring number of COVID cases in the past few days.

“This is only my suggestion. Perhaps it can help – let us have drive-thru booster vaccination in toll gates of expressways such as NLEX, SLEX, TPLEX, and Star. We can have at least one dedicated gate at the entrance and exit so we can reach more people and protect them,” he said,

The presidential aspirant made the suggestion after seeing non-Manila residents lining up for different booster and vaccination facilities in Manila.

“People want to get their booster shot,” he said.

He said converting the tollways into drive-thru vaccination sites can help improve further the government’s inoculation drive.

He said the private companies operating the expressways have the manpower and the capacity to implement his proposal.

The Manila Mayor, however, reiterated that getting boosters at expressways should be voluntary.

On Monday, Domagoso led the opening of another drive-thru booster site at the Bagong Ospital ng Maynila, exclusively for the city’s 4-wheel and 3-wheel public utility vehicle drivers.
