The Department of Agrarian Reform on Friday vowed to split 6,064 hectares of agricultural land in Sultan Kudarat into individual titles to benefit 2,342 farmer-beneficiaries.

“This project aims to strengthen their land tenure security, as well as, their rights to their property,” Secretary Bernie Cruz said.

The properties distributed under collective certificates of land ownership award (CCLOAs) would be subdivided under the Project SPLIT or Support to Parcelization of Lands for Individual Titling.

According to the DAR chief, the project is being implemented to issue individual land titles to agrarian reform beneficiaries who were previously awarded lands that were under collective ownership.

Cruz lauded the development, stressing that a large number of farmers stand to benefit from the project.

The SPLIT project that started in November 2020 will end in 2024 to cover 1.368 million hectares of land in 78 provinces in 15 regions. Cruz said 1.1 million farmers would benefit from it.

Marion Abella, Region XII director and SPLIT regional project manager, said in the first three months of the project implementation, 1,198 farmers benefited covering 3,050 hectares.

“As of December last year, we had an additional target of 3,014 hectares to benefit 1,144 agrarian reform beneficiaries and we have now accomplished 100 percent of the province’s total target,” he said.

He lamented that parceling land is not an easy task because disputes would arise on the fields during the validation of lands and demanded critical resolutions from field validation teams.
