Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor is committed to prioritize the education of the marginalized sector.

Chair and chief executive officer Alvin Feliciano vowed to pursue the agency’s mission in providing adequate programs and services for the poor, “most especially on education.”

He said PCUP and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority would continue to strengthen their partnership to enable their poor scholars to avail themselves of the free skills training
and technical vocational courses.

PCUP has already endorsed 2,700 deserving scholars to TESDA, he added.

He said 500 scholars have already graduated, and that they are in the process of endorsement to the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Labor and Employment and the public employment service office within their local government units for employment.

“This program (PCUP scholarship caravan) is one of our priorities because we believe that our urban poor will be fully empowered through education, skills, and knowledge that will be useful to their lives,” he stressed.
