Batanes tourism industry going strong

BASCO, Batanes  - This province’s tourism industry remains stronger and stable as proven by its increasing trend of tourist arrivals and booming establishments.

According to Hegel Ruiz-Valones, provincial tourism officer, the province’s tourist arrivals went up from 1,732 in 2004 to 12, 409 in the second quarter of this year.

She said, this is attributed to the regular flight schedules from Manila to Basco and vice versa as well as those taking off from Tuguegarao City area.
With this, the commercial establishments in the province are also becoming stable as a result of the growing tourism activities here.
“We believe that we have enough to offer not only the attraction and tourism products but also our traditional Ivatan games and cuisine and the increasing facilities such as hotels and restaurants,” she added.
While the tourism industry is going stronger, the local officials also conduct massive advocacy on eco-tourism and heritage preservation among local folks for them to conserve and preserve their rich culture and natural resources for future generation and further development.
