Rebels kill two, torch equipment in S. Cotabato construction site

KORONADAL CITY—New People’s Army guerrillas attacked a road construction site in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato Tuesday night, torching heavy equipment and killing two security guards, police said.

Five other guards were wounded in the incident.

Superintendent Jose Briones, provincial police director, said pursuit operations by government forces are continuing on the borders of Lake Sebu and Surallah towns.

Lake Sebu Mayor Antonio Fungan said some 20 rebels attacked the Gemma Construction site in Sitio Lamsuguing, Barangay Lamfugon past 9 p.m.

Fungan said the firm, which is working on a national government-funded road connecting Barangay Upper Sepaka, Surallah to Barangay Lamfugon, Lake Sebu, had ignored rebel demands for so-called revolutionary taxes.
