Court issues arrest warrant for De Lima

Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) has issued a warrant of arrest for Senator Leila de Lima on Thursday afternoon.

This is in connection with the criminal charges filed by the Department of Justice against her for alleged violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The arrest warrant was issued by Muntinlupa RTC Judge Juanita Guerrero of Branch 204 before 4 pm.

The court cited "sufficient probable cause" to file drug charges against the senator as reason for the move.

De Lima is currently in the Senate.

She just attended the hearing held on Thursday morning by the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs that investigated the death of Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo.

Her media relations officer Ferdie Maglalang said, they are verifying information that the judge had just arrived from Macau.

Nevertheless, the senator is ready with her bag containing her belongings, in case law enforcers will arrest her.

The lawmaker has pending motions to quash the drug cases against her in court, in an effort to put on hold the release of any arrest warrant.
