People Power celebration to be held a day earlier

People Power Commission Vice Chairman Joey Concepcion III has announced that the celebration of the 31st Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution will be held on Friday, February 24.

This is veering away from the tradition of holding the annual event every February 25 (Saturday this year).

In a press conference in Malacañang, Concepcion also announced, the program will be held inside the Armed Forces headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo and not in front of the People Power monument along EDSA in White Plains, Quezon City.

The traditional “salubungan” has also been excluded from the program.

“Let us not look at so many activities. Let us remain focused on what is the real essence of EDSA,” Concepcion said.

Amid these changes, Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra explained, “the present administration does not give any less significance to the celebration. We just want to make this a day of reflection.”

“Let us remove the pomp and think, reflect and move forward from here,” he said.
