The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Caraga puts at six the death toll following the magnitude 6.7 earthquake in Surigao City on Friday night.

OCD Public Information Officer April Rose Sanchez notes, earlier reports cited higher death toll but she says, she can only confirm 6 fatalities as of Saturday noon.

Sanchez says, most of the victims were hit by falling debris.

One suffered a heart attack.

Sanchez also reports, about 80 quake victims are confined at Caraga Regional Hospital.

20 injured are getting treatment at the Medical Center, while 8 have been brought to Miranda Hospital.

Many of those injured were hit by walls that collapsed.

There is power outage right now in Surigao City and in some towns in Surigao del Norte Norte that were affected by the tremor.

Hospitals rely on generators for supply of electricity.

The OCD also adds, flights going to Surigao City have been diverted to Butuan City, which is two hours away from Surigao City by land.

Surigao City airport sustained heavy damage.
