8 killed in suspected pirate attack in Zamboanga City

Eight crewmembers of a boat were massacred by suspected pirates off the waters of Siromon Island, Zamboanga City.

The victims were on board a motor banca when they were shot dead at about 8 pm Monday. 

The incident has been confirmed by Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Spokesperson Armand Balilo. 

He says, 5 other crewmembers are still missing.

The five jumped off the boat to escape the attack. 

Two crewmembers survived the assault and were able to report the incident to the local police.

PCG is conducting a search and rescue operation for the missing crewmembers.
