Bayan Muna Party-list Representative Neri Colmenares is advising Social Security System (SSS) Chairman Amado Valdez to avoid the pressure from government economic experts who are opposed to the P 2,000 increase in SSS pension.
“I hope Dean Valdez will not succumb to the pressure of economic managers and that he will exercise independent authority,” Colmenares says.
He notes, if the SSS will only manage to collect all contributions from members and encourage delinquent members to resume payments, then its fund life can be extended.
Colmenares authored the bill in the 16th Congress that sought to increase the SSS pension.
The measure was vetoed by then President Aquino, stating it would put the viability of the agency at risk.
