President Rodrigo Duterte is calling on all officials of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to resign.
This comes amid reports that corrupt practices are proliferating in this office.
During his trip in Lima, Peru, the President said, “ basta itong lahat ng officials (referring to ERC), they have to resign.”
Duterte also called on Congress to abolish the regulatory body.
“I demand that Congress to disband the ERC.”
He also wants appropriate charges filed against persons involved in graft.
Duterte’s pronouncements come following the suicide of ERC Director Francisco Villa Jr. last November 9, 2016.
Villa allegedly ended his life after being pressured to approve government contracts without bidding and the hiring of consultants without proper procedures.
