18 cops who served warrant to Espinosa relieved

PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa has relieved 18 operatives of the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Region 8 who took part in the serving of a search warrant to Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa inside his detention cell in Baybay City Sub-Provincial Jail.

The incident early Saturday morning resulted in the shootout where the mayor was killed.

Dela Rosa directed PNP Personnel and Record Management Director Fernando Mendez Jr. to issue to relief order.

The cops are already facing investigation by the PNP Internal Affairs Service (IAS) and the PNP CIDG.

Dela Rosa promises, there will be no whitewash in the probe and appropriate sanctions and charges will be filed against the policemen if they are proven to have committed wrongdoings.
