Senate to probe Espinosa’s death in jail

Senator Panfilo Lacson sees the killing of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa while inside a detention cell as a possible case of extra-judicial killing.

But he says, he is interested to hear the side of the team of the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Eastern Visayas, who had killed Espinosa in an alleged shootout early Saturday morning inside Leyte Sub-Provincial Jail in Baybay City.

The senator says, law enforcers may be able to present a credible explanation on why and how the incident took place.

Lacson expects to get answers on Thursday when the Senate Committee on Public Order conducts an investigation into Espinosa’s death.

It has sent summons to Supt. Marvin Marcos of PNP CIDG-Region 8 and Chief Inspector Leo Laraga, who led the CIDG group that served the search warrant to the mayor, as well as Leyte Governor Leopoldo Petilla.
