Jaybee Sebastian, the so-called ‘king of drug lords’ of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) and two other high profile inmates Vicente Sy and Peter Co are now present at the House of Representatives.
They are among the 7 witnesses appearing at the hearing of the House Committee on Justice on the proliferation of illegal drug trade inside NBP.
House members initially held an executive meeting for more than an hour on Monday morning before starting the public inquiry.
In his opening remarks, Justice Committee Chairman Reynaldo Umali said, ‘sabi nila, government asset daw si Jaybee Sebastian (Jaybee Sebastian is a government asset). We will find this out.”
He also said, the public should brace for a very long hearing, citing that the last three hearings on the matter took a minimum of 5 hours and a maximum of 11 hours.
He also said, by now, the proliferation of crime syndicates in NBP has been established.
He added that graft and corruption and payola, as well as mismanagement of NBP by the Bureau of Corrections, have been proven in previous hearings.
Sebastian, Co and Sy were injured in a riot inside Building 14 of NBP two weeks ago.
