Colombia president to rebels: 'Welcome to democracy'

Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos welcomed the FARC leftist rebels into the political sphere.

This came as they signed a peace accord to end a half-century civil war.

"As head of state of the homeland that we all love, I welcome you to democracy," Santos said after signing the accord.

The peace agreement aims to transform the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) into a political group after disarming.
