Typhoon 'Ferdie' in Northern Luzon strengthens

Typhoon ‘Ferdie’ has intensified further as it moves toward extreme Northern Luzon.

PAGASA says, as of 10 am on Monday, the eye of ‘Ferdie’ was located 870 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

It carries maximum sustained winds of up to 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph.

‘Ferdie’ is forecast to move west northwest at 22 kph.

The typhoon is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Thursday morning.

Tropical cyclone signal number 1 is up over Cagayan, Apayao, Batanes and Babuyan group of islands.
