Criminal raps filed anew vs. Aquino over Mamasapano massacre

The third batch of criminal complaints for the deaths of the so-called 'SAF 44' has been filed against Former President Benigno Aquino at the Ombudsman.

Lorna Sagonoy, the mother of PNP Special Action Force (SAF) member PO1 Joseph Sagonoy, was among those who filed charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide against the former chief executive.

The complainants also included as respondents Former PNP Chief Alan Purisima and Former SAF Chief Getulio Napeñas.

The families of SAF 44 believe, negligence on the part of the three former government officials resulted in the deaths of their loved ones.

The group Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) acted as co-complainant in the cases.

Attorney Ferdie Topacio, the counsel for some of SAF 44 families, says a total of 8 cases have been filed against Aquino in relation to the Mamasapano encounter.

44 SAF personnel were killed on January 25, 2015 in Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao in a mission meant to arrest terror suspects Zulkifli “Marwan” Abdhir and Malaysian Basit Usman.
