Masinloc Mayor tells fishermen to avoid entering Scarborough Shoal

Masinloc, Zambales Mayor Arsenia Lim has prohibited fishermen in her town from entering the Scarborough Shoal for safety reasons.

This comes after Chinese Navy vessels chased away some Filipino fishermen who ventured in the area on Thursday.

Lim laments that although the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague has ruled that China has no historic claim over the South China Sea, the decision of the tribunal cannot be enforced.

She said they will try to provide alternative livelihood to the affected fishermen.

Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella says Filipino fishermen “are not prevented from fishing in Scarborough Shoal but they are cautioned to proceed with care.”
