With an estimated 4,096 members in  its roster across the country, the Volkswagen Club of the Philippines is one of the country’s largest, oldest and active automotive organizations. Recently, Beetle enthusiasts from Metro Manila and the neighboring provinces gathered at the Camp Aguinaldo Grand Parade Grounds in Quezon City over the weekend for the 29th staging of the All VW Classic/Custom/New Generation Car show which was sponsored by Volkswagen Philippines.

“This show will provide the people access to our current and upcoming line-up which are equipped with the latest German technologies and innovations. It is a great way to showcase our car models and heritage,” says Klaus Schadewald, Volkswagen Philippines Chief Operating Adviser.

Fans of the Beetle had a field day ogling and drooling at the classic VW models in their various states of restored glory and customized perfection. There were a good serving of the classic VW Beetle, Karman Ghias, VW Combi and three rare Kubelwagen first used by the Germans  in the Forties. “I am amazed at the Beetle classics here at the show, and they even have the rear split window type version,” says Schadewald, who intimated that he was happy at the sight of the VW  display at the Parade Grounds.

Also on display was  the Golf GTI. To be made available starting next month, the GTI is equipped with 18-inch GTI “Austin” wheels, GTI grill and bumpers, GTI color-keyed rear spoiler, GTI LED tail lamps, and GTI tailpipes. This enthusiast car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injected gasoline engine with 220 Ps and 350 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed DSG transmission that drives the front wheels. Visitors to the car show also got up close and personal with VW’s other variants such as the Polo, Tiguan, Touareg and the iconic new generation Beetle.
