With the Vietnam Southeast East Asian Games scheduled to take place in mid-May next year, national athletes are expected to start training next month in government-owned sports facilities in Metro Manila and Baguio City.

Areas inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila and the Philsports Complex in Pasig City are now being readied for reopening under a bubble setup.

National Training Director Marc Velasco said in a recent radio interview that the Philippine Sports Commission is now discussing this plan.

“The management committee of the PSC has recommended this to the PSC board, to have bubble training centers and prepare for these in November,” said Velasco.

For now, the venues that will be used are limited.

This is because some parts of the PSC-controlled facilities are still being used as COVID-19 quarantine facilities.

Velasco said they are in coordination with the Interagency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Diseases on their plans.

The Vietnam (Hanoi) SEA Games was originally scheduled from November 21 to December 2 this year.

But Vietnam’s government sought for a postponement because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once numerous national athletes go into full-blast training, they will have seven months to get in shape and be ready for competition.
