LRMC acquires new train for LRT 1

Light Rail Manila Corp. said Monday it acquired a fourth-generation train set to be deployed by the middle of next year.

LRMC, along with partners from the Department of Transportation, Light Rail Transit Authority, and Manila Harbor Center Port Services Inc., received the Gen-4 train sets in batches this year since the arrival of the first set on Jan. 18, 2021.

The company said of the 30 train sets that are scheduled for delivery until June 2022, 12 sets were delivered as of October. The Gen-4 train sets would be deployed for LRT 1 system and Cavite Extension project.

Each Gen-4 train set consists of 4 light rail vehicles with total capacity of 1,300 passengers per trip. The state-of-the-art passenger train measures 106 meters in length and 2.59 meters in width, with maximum design speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour. They have destination signs to inform passengers if the trains are heading north or south.
