If Hidilyn Diaz could resist the comfort of coming luxuries following her gold-medal conquest in the Tokyo Olympics, she might find herself competing one last time in Paris.

So far, nearly P50 million in cash incentives both from the government and private sectors is set to be given as incentives to Diaz, who finally nailed the country’s first-ever Olympic gold with a record-breaking lift of 224kgs in weightlifting’s women 55kg category.

The figure is expected to rise as more pledges of perks continue to pour in, including houses and lots, cars and a condo unit.

But all of these have not diminished Diaz’s passion for the sport that has brought a mix of fame, fortune, heartaches and disappointment for her. Not just yet.

In an interview with GMA’s 24 Oras Thursday night, Diaz said she feels she still has the strength to continue competing. “Sayang ang momentum. Sayang ‘yung lakas, kaya habang may lakas pa, ganyan naman ang atleta ‘pag malakas pa at kaya pa, gawin mo,” said Diaz, dismissing the idea of retirement.

The next Olympics will be held in Paris, France in 2024, which is just three years away.

When asked if she is ready to walk down the aisle with long-time boyfriend Julius Naranjo, her strength and conditioning coach, Diaz said: “Siyempre gusto ko ring magpakasal, pero hintay lang ako ‘di ba. Yes (gusto ko din) magka-anak, magka-pamilya. Pero sa ngayon, nakikita ko malakas pa ako (to continue competing).”

At 30 years old, the pride of Zamboanga City admitted she wants to enjoy the perks that are coming her way and achieve more outside weightlifting, including finishing her studies at the College of St. Benilde.

“I want na makatapos sa college, maraming beses na kasi ako nag-stop. Gusto ko rin naman mag-enjoy sa buhay, like mag travel,” she said.

After a short rest, expect Diaz to be lifting weights again.
