Some 600,000 deactivated voters have registered again to be able to participate in next year's elections, an official of the Commission on Elections said on Saturday.

Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said these voters are part of the more than seven million voters who were deactivated for failure to participate in two consecutive polls.

“Only 600,000 of 7.3 million voters deactivated for failure to vote twice have registered again. Please encourage them to register this month. Avoid the rush,” Guanzon said on her Twitter account.

The nationwide voter registration is ongoing and will run until September 30.

Applicants are instructed to file their application for registration before the Office of Election Officer in the city/municipality where they intend to vote.

Local Comelec offices are open Mondays to Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The poll body earlier said it has achieved its target of four million new registrants.
