A feel-good vibe in Clark

Park Inn by Radisson Clark banners its upbeat attitude and optimism on the resurgence of our tourism industry by opening its all-new, 100-room South Wing. This bold move affirms the feel-good brand’s commitment to help spark leisure travel to that part of the country, either through Clark International Airport, which is 10 minutes away from the hotel, or by land transportation.

This new wing has five suites and 95 superior rooms, all in vibrant contemporary designs, manned by a full complement of well-trained staff known for their “Yes I Can” service ethos.

Each of the superior rooms is equipped with a writing desk, mini-bar, sensor-activated air conditioning facility, bedside USB ports, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The bathroom has the stand-alone rain shower preferred by fastidious guests. Aside from all these amenities, each suite has a separate living area, and is provided with a Nespresso machine.

The opening ceremony was led by (from left) SMHCC executive vice president Peggy Angeles, Mabalacat Mayor Cris Garbo, SMHCC president Elizabeth Sy, DOT Regional Director Carol Uy, Clark Dev. Corp. vice president Rynah Ventura, and Park Inn by Radisson Clark general manager Ann Olalo.

Business guests are now welcome to use this new wing, and they will also have access to the hotel’s outdoor pool, a well-equipped fitness center, the 24-hour Hues Restaurant, the lobby lounge, and the “grab-and-go” snack zone. There are also three meeting rooms open to corporate get-togethers, and those who want to insert some shopping in their day’s hectic schedule, the massive SM City Clark is just next door.

The original 154-room North Wing, which has a separate entrance and a separate lobby from those of the South Wing, continues to accommodate overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) on quarantine. They do not have access to the hotel’s public areas and facilities, for the protection of other guests.

Park Inn by Radisson Clark has been SGS-certified and adheres strictly to the Radisson Hotels Safety Protocol, meriting the much-valued Safety Pass from our Department of Tourism, assuring hotel guests of their protection from any virus-related health hazard during their stay. These health and safety measures, together with the hotel’s continuous exemplary service, led to its having received the Travelers Choice Award of TripAdvisor for the fifth consecutive year this year.

Andre de Jong, vice president for operations of the Radisson Hotel Group in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, who joined the inaugural ceremonies virtually, declared his appreciation to the owning company, SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC), for their strong and long-standing business partnership instrumental in the roll out of several Park Inn by Radisson properties in the country.

Moreover, the hotel’s general manager, Ann Olalo, displayed great enthusiasm over the opening of their South Wing as it enhances their ability to operate as a multiple-use hotel, which will cater to the needs of business travelers and returning Filipinos.

A chat with SMHCC executive vice president Peggy Angeles during the inaugural ceremonies, led by SMHCC president Elizabeth Sy, revealed that the original Park Inn by Radisson Clark has been successful since it opened its doors in December 2015. This led to their immediate plan for additional rooms, thus, the South Wing came to be.

Assigning the North Wing to guests on quarantine is actually SMHCC’s assistance to the government, through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), per Angeles, as hotels in Metro Manila are usually too full to accommodate OFWs and ROFs who have to be quarantined upon arrival.

I was enthused by Angeles’ sharing of SMHCC’s exciting plan for the immediate future. The construction of an SMX Convention Center right next to the Park Inn by Radisson Clark is ongoing, and Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod opens this week.

By the end of next year, they will open another property, a hotel and service suites, in the Mall of Asia complex, to be managed by Hong Kong-based Lanson Place.

These projects are certainly a big boost to our economy as they provide jobs not only for those in the tourism industry but also those in the construction industry. And, I am awed by Angeles’ and SMHCC’s remarkable bullishness as she declared that this expansion was in preparation for 2023, when the pre-pandemic levels of tourism business is expected to kick in.

What’s the difference between a hippo and a zippo? One is really heavy. The other one is a little lighter.
