In a bid to reduce waste, fast food giant McDonald’s Philippines replaces its flat lids for cold beverages with spout lids.
The lids, now used in select stores in Metro Manila, allows customers to drink their soft drink, juice, iced tea, or iced coffee sans straw.
“By testing these strawless lids, we aim to continue our journey to reduce waste. Through this change, we will be able make strides in our waste reduction strategy, while ensuring that our consumers are able to enjoy their iced cold drinks along with their favorite McDonald’s meals, one less straw at a time,” said Adi Hernandez, corporate communications head of McDonald’s Philippines
The shift in packaging follows the change in McDonald’s policy on straws, which started as early as 2018, that limited the distribution to select cold beverages only, namely the McFloat, Coffee Float, Milk Tea, and McFreeze.
