Putin, Duterte chat on 45th year of Russia-PH ties

President Rodrigo Duterte and Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin talked over the phone Wednesday on the 45th anniversary of Russia-Philippines diplomatic relations.

The Philippine Embassy in Moscow shared on its Facebook page the Kremlin News report, which said: "Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte."

"When discussing issues of joint fight against the spread of coronavirus infection, special attention was paid to the supply of Russian vaccines to the Philippines," it added, noting the recent arrival of Sputnik V jabs in Manila.

Earlier, Putin sent a congratulatory telegram to Duterte.

"The heads of state exchanged warm congratulations on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which is being celebrated today, and praised the level of bilateral cooperation achieved over the past years," the report said.

Mutual interest was confirmed "in further building up cooperation in various areas, providing for the implementation of projects in energy, agriculture, transport, humanitarian and other spheres," Kremlin News added.

The leaders also agreed to further coordinate efforts in the international arena, primarily through the United Nations, it said.
