Angeles City—Learners in public schools were relieved after government officials on Monday distributed internet access cards to be used during online classes.

Each internet card can be used for a maximum of three years, allowing students to have a better and stable WI-FI access, said Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. during the ceremonial distribution of the cards at the city hall grounds.

Lazatin says the free internet card is part of the city government’s educational program to provide assistance to students from Grade 4 to12 in this time of pandemic.

The city government was able to distribute 5,404 internet cards during its initial distribution: 1,782 for the City College of Angeles, 493 for the Marisol Bliss Elementary School, 1,036 for the Santa Teresita Elementary School and 2,093 for the Malabanias Integrated School.

Each internet card can be used for a maximum of three years, allowing students to have a better and more stable internet access.

A total of 700 access points were installed city-wide for free WIFI connection, 200 of which were paid for by the city government for P20 million while the other 500 are being installed for free.

In January of this year, the city government completed the distribution of tablets to the city’s 53 public schools and scholars of City College of Angeles.

The distributed tablets will augment the needs of the Grades 4 to 12 public school students and city scholars in their online learning amid the pandemic.

He affirmed his commitment to education and in making sure that the Angelenos children are able to continue their learning despite the many challenges the city is facing.
