Environmental stewardship in Quezon

Atimonan One Energy, Inc. (A1E) recently held a mangrove planting activity in partnership with the local government of Atimonan, Quezon province. Over 2,000 mangrove propagules  (stem cuttings) were planted by volunteers along the two-hectare coastal area of Brgy. Balugohin (Shown in photo). The project will reduce vulnerability of the area to storm surge, flash floods and coastal erosion, as well as boost fish production in Lamon bay. Reynalita M. Santana, vice president for external affairs of A1E parent firm Meralco PowerGen (MGen),  confirmed that the mangroves will serve as sanctuaries for fish and other marine species where they can rest, lay eggs and reproduce. “We look forward to exploring other remaining forests and coastal mangrove plantations where this activity can be done,” she said. A1E is the developer of a planned 1,200-megawatt (MW) high efficiency, low emissions coal-fired power plant to be constructed in Brgy. Villa Ibaba, Atimonan.
