The role of women in Malabon’s progress and transformation was acknowledged during the “Women’s Congress” held by Malabon Gender and Development Center to end this year’s celebration of Women’s Month.

Malabon Mayor Lenlen Oreta and District II Councilor Enzo Oreta gave messages of support to the Malabon women.

Lenlen Oreta, who joined the celebration through a short message, emphasized the role of every woman in the betterment of the city.

Oreta said she was happy there’s a Women’s Congress where the significant role and contribution of women in the development of Malabon were recognized.

Councilor Oreta, chairperson on Women, Family and PWD, encouraged everyone to rally behind these women and their contribution in attaining progress for the City.

“Itong Women’s Congress ay isa ding pagbibigay-pugay sa inyong walang-kapantay na paglilingkod sa inyong kapwa. Lagi pong tandaan na basta’t sama-sama at tulong-tulong, kaya nateng ipagpatuloy ang pag-asenso ng Kababaihang Malabonian.” Enzo Oreta said.

Hundreds of participants from various sectors in this year’s theme ‘Kabayanihan ng Kababaihan, Pagkakapantay-pantay at Pag-asenso sa Kabila ng Pandemya,’ presented the key agenda centered on women’s rights, safety, welfare, livelihood, and competence.

Five representatives from various organizations signed a commitment wall to signify their dedication in pursuing these goals for the benefit of the women of Malabon.

The participants also took the opportunity to acknowledge how programs from the Local Government over the years became instrumental in empowering women.

Meliza Pili of SAMAKA-KALIPI— one of the largest women groups in the City— said apart from medical, financial and educational assistance, efforts like E-Nanay, TUPAD, Balik Trabaho Program and other livelihood projects continue to be of great help in uplifting women especially now during the pandemic.

iFM93.9 Radio DJ Kat Alibio, an alumna of the City of Malabon University and a youth leader, also took part in the program where she reminded the participants that they are capable of achieving great things.
