More than P26 million will be allocated for at least 9,100 students covered by a three-month financial aid program from the local government of Manila.

Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso signed over the weekend the payroll covering 8,295 college students and 805 senior high school (SHS) students of the city-run Universidad de Manila (UdM).

According to Domagoso, college students will receive P3,000 each while SHS students will get P1,500 each. The said amounts cover the months of January to March.

Through the initiative of Domagoso and the full support of the Manila City Council headed by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan as its presiding officer and majority floor leader Joel Chua, the city government rolled out in 2019 a social amelioration package that grants monthly cash assistance,to students of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and UdM as well as to senior citizens, persons with disability and solo parents.

Domagoso said originally, the allowance was supposed to help students with their day-to-day expenses such as transportation fare.

With the suspension of face-to-face classes, the students can use the financial aid to buy necessities or save them for future use, he said.
