Censure Arayat over ban, QC dad urges DILG

Quezon City Councilor Winston Castelo on Tuesday urged the Department of Interior and Local Government to censure officials of Arayat for their “unfair, discriminatory” restriction of not allowing QC residents to enter or travel through their town in Pampanga.

“The restriction imposed by the Arayat local government is not only unfair and discriminatory but also unreasonable and without scientific basis,” Castelo said.

“What is worse is that it prejudices not only Quezon City residents traveling to the town but their own constituents who are working in Quezon City and whose return to their hometown is restricted as well,” he added.

Castelo said it is possible that “there are more Arayat workers than QC residents affected by the action taken by their own municipal government.”

“Our enemy is COVID-19, not our constituents who are infected with the virus and who should be taken care of, instead of being subjected to discrimination,” he cited.

The Department of Health and city government have taken sufficient measures to prevent the spread of the old and new variant of virus, he noted.

“While it is certainly the right of the Arayat local government to protect its population, there is no need to act in panic and in disregard of the rights of other citizens,” Castelo said.
