Camp Olivas, Pampanga—Central Luzon police chief BGen. Valeriano De Leon directed Tuesday all police chiefs in the region to regularly disinfect their offices to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
This developed as a police officer in Minalin, Pampanga contracted COVID-19, reportedly while in the performance of duty.
The lawman was quickly placed under isolation for monitoring and treatment, sources from the Provincial Police Office told Manila Standard.
The last disinfection conducted at the regional police headquarters was late last year, when 18 of its personnel tested positive for COVID-19.
More than a dozen policemen detailed at PPO were also isolated due to COVID-19 last year. They all recovered fully and returned to service.
A total of 353 policemen In Central Luzon have contracted COVID-19 since March, with 331 quickly recovering from the coronavirus illness.
In his directive, De Leon instructed all police chiefs in Central Luzon to make it a habit in disinfecting all offices daily.
“We always say prevention is better than cure, this is why we have to maximize our efforts in finding ways and means to fight this invisible foe as we cannot afford to lose to COVID-19,” said De Leon in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) regional office here reminded passengers jeeps drivers and operators to regularly disinfect their vehicles and observe the minimum health protocols.
“As recommended by health experts, please strictly comply with the seven commandments to ensure that our commuters, operators, drivers and the public be spared from coronavirus,” said LTFRB 3 director Ahmed Cuizon in a statement.
Over at the Clark International Airport, 114 employees underwent RT-PCR test to ensure healthy and safe working stations at the premier gateway in Central and Northern Luzon.
“This is the first of a series of quarterly RT-PCR test for Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) employees to help, in our modest way, in curbing the spread of COVD 19,” said CIAC President & CEO Aaron N. Aquino.
