Caloocan City Councilor Orvince Howard A. Hernandez has announced that the city will hold an online Christmas caroling contest this year as an alternative to the traditional house-to-house caroling to keep carolers safe from the COVID-19 disease.

Dubbed as “PaskCO-VIDeo Christmas Carol Competition,” Hernandez initiated the project in collaboration with the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Caloocan City and in partnership with Caloocan Cultural and Tourism Foundation Inc. (CCTFI).

“Hindi mapipigil ng COVID-19 dito sa Caloocan ang nakaugaliang caroling dahil kultura na ito ng mga Pilipino tuwing Pasko. Pero dahil pandemya nga at ayaw nating malagay sa alanganin ang kalusugan ng ating mamamayan, online na lang ang caroling at hindi na bahay-bahay. Tuloy ang Pasko at puwede tayong maging masaya kahit may COVID-19,” Hernandez, concurrent president of the SK federation, said in a statement.

Among the participants were talented youngsters from Caloocan’s Zone 3, Zone 5 children’s angels carolers, the group called themselves as ‘The NXT Ang Probinsyano’ of Zone 9; ‘The CAROLERS’ from Zone 12; the ‘Trese Representates of Zone 13;’ ‘The STREETS’ from Zone 6; The Dreamers on Stage (DOS) of Zone 16’ and the ‘Sona Kinse of Zone 15.’

Special guest for the event is the carolers from SNE Sionitas of Sto. Nino Elementary School headed by Principal Dra. Naohmie Rivera.
