Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo have celebrated their ninth year being an official love team, which started when they were paired in the hit youth-oriented show Growing Up in September 2011.
Since the start of their onscreen pairing, which eventually blossomed into a real-life relationship—a revelation that didn’t quite surprise their fans as they already spotted signs from the couple way before — they have starred in numerous projects both on television and in film.
While the public has already seen Kathryn with a different onscreen partner (Alden Richards in the now highest-grossing local film in history, Hello, Love, Goodbye), Daniel is yet to make a decision whether or not he’s ready to be seen with a different leading lady.
In a virtual interview with Manila Standard Entertainment, Kathryn has expressed her support for Daniel’s growth as an actor.
“Honestly I don’t want to be selfish at ipag-kait yung ganong opportunity kay DJ. If the time would come that he is paired with a different leading lady, I really wouldn’t mind. He was very supportive of my project when I had a different leading man,” she admitted.
“He has a lot of offers, and those offers are not really meant for the two of us. If he wants to accept those projects, I will respect his decision. At the end of the day, it’s his decision. I will be right here as his number 1 fan,” she carried on.
Meanwhile, Star Cinema, the film arm of the Filipino-owned multi-media company ABS-CBN, brings a different kind of movie experience with its first digital movie series The House Arrest of Us that serves as KathNiel’s reunion since their last TV series and movie together. Their last TV series was La Luna Sangre in 2017, while it was in 2018 when they starred in the box-office hit Filipino film The Hows of Us.
Different from the usual almost two-hours-long movie viewing, The House Arrest of Us is divided into 13 episodes with each episode being released weekly, which viewers from different countries around the world get to watch repeatedly throughout the season.
The setting for KathNiel’s upcoming movie is based in the time when the Philippines was under the enhanced community quarantine, where everyone was mandated to stay at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In The House Arrest of Us, the enhanced community quarantine was announced at the time when Korics’ (Daniel) family went to meet Q’s (Kathryn) family for the pamamanhikan, a Filipino tradition where the man with his family formally asks the permission of the woman’s family to marry her. This forces the total opposites and warring families of the newly engaged couple to live under one roof, which will also test the couple’s relationship.
The House Arrest of Us also stars Herbert Bautista, Ruffa Gutierrez, Gardo Versoza, Arlene Muhlach, Dennis Padilla, Anthony Jennings, Riva Quenery, Alora Sasam, and Hyubs Azarcon under the direction of Richard Arellano.
The House Arrest of Us becomes available to viewers worldwide starting Oct. 25 on iWantTFC and TFC IPTV, with a new episode drop every Sunday (Manila time).
