If we are to take Toyota's words at face value, then it should really be a breeze weaving in and out of Metro Manila's rush-hour traffic like strolling in the dolomite-strewn Manila Baywalk Beach.

That's because the freshly-reinvented Fortuner is loaded with ample safety features, coupled with high-tech appurtenances, which make for stress-free driving, and its passengers adequately protected, according to Toyota's marketing pitch during a virtual launch last week.

The 2020 Fortuner boasts Toyota's patented “Safety Sense “,  modern settings previously featured in select Toyota models such as the Pre-Collision System and Lane Departure Alert. Pre-collision system warns the driver of an impending hit while land departure alert also rouses the driver not to stray away.

All Fortuner variants come with SRS airbags (7 for the LTD variants)and 3-pt. ELR seatbelts, devices that serve as protective cushion for driver and passengers.

The other tried and proven safety features such as Anti-Lock Brake System with Brake Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control, and Hill-Start Assist Control, enable the driver and the Fortuner to be in control even during rugged, off-road driving.

All these and more features of the Fortuner were amplified when Toyota Motors top brass led by Atsuhiro Okamoto as company president unveiled the refreshed SUV October 12, 2020 in the virtual presence of 120 select motoring journalists, furthering Toyota's streak of digital auto launches.

During the virtual launch of the new Fortuner, Okamoto recalled how the Fortuner changed the local automotive landscape at a time when entry level sedans and Asian utility vehicles were the crowd favorites.

“The Fortuner captured the hearts of many Filipinos as proven by strong sales. It has an SUV body perfect for the Philippines’ flood-prone streets, an array of variants including a fuel-efficient diesel engine, a macho look that satisfies desires, and most of all, an affordable price – making it an achievable dream,” said Okamoto.
