Bataan solon pushes for Mango Development Council

Balanga City, Bataan—The Office of Bataan 2nd District Cong. Joet Garcia is pushing for the creation of Mango Development Council in the province.

Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training Services Dr. Hermogenes Paguia said the creation of the council was agreed in a zoom meeting yesterday aiming to boost mango production in the province.

He said the virtual meeting, aside from him, was attended by Cong. Garcia’s Chief of Staff Jett Nisay, Provincial Agriculturist Joanna Dizon, Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Officer Zena Sugatain, and Federation of Mango Growers, Exporters and Processors of Bataan member Analiza Utulo.

Other attendees were Cong. Garcia’s staff Alanna Balbuena, BPSU research staff Maricel Javier, Provincial Agriculture Office personnel Rolando Almario Jr., and PCEDO personlnel Raymond Macomis. 

Paguia said a technical working group for the council will be formed, and added the Office of Cong. Garcia will provide legal advise and assistance.

It was agreed in the meeting that the council will work for stable policy of the mango development in the province as well as the fruit sure market. 

BPSU will also continuously provide technical assistance and extension services to local mango growers. 

BPSU President Dr. Greg Rodis is supporting the establishment of the mango council In the province. 

The university president is pushing for sustainable innovations and researches like in mango production.

“The innovations and research we are doing in BPSU will mean nothing if we do not reach end users”, he earlier said. 

BPSU is known to have dynamic research and extension office.

It will be remembered that Paguia’s paper, “Improvement of Mango Production through Science and Technology Innovations and Support Mechanisms for Capacity Development in Bataan and Zambales” has recently been adjudged finalist in the Development Category of PCAARRD Best Research and Development Paper Awards 2020.
