This pandemic has altered our usual routine, but let it be said that the best of brands can withstand such a major challenge and will always remain trusted by its customers, especially as the finest ones rightly adapt to the requirements of the new normal without sacrificing quality service and trademark.

Mary Pauline Salon, tagged as “The Styling Team of Top-Rated Shows,” is among those able to redirect its business and save it. Owner Mary Pauline Danga-Obias personified the resilience that turned the brand into success and eventually withstood a 21st century pandemic.

“I am the type of person who would rise up to any challenge. So I called up my COO Cathy Roquino and instructed her to get the business moving by offering home services to our clients and strengthening our online marketing,” Obias said.

MPS is arguably the first in the salon industry to make such a move, which brought positive impact to the business as a whole. Instead of clients going to the salon, MPS staff go to their homes to service them. In this set-up, pandemic protocol is carefully placed, with staff being tested for COVID-19 every two weeks and getting flu/pneumonia vaccines. MPS outlets are installed with foot baths, alcohol dispensers, face masks, face shields, air purifiers, and UV sanitation boxes. The staff, apart from health protection provision, continuously receive their salaries and allowances on time as well.

"Our aim is for them to feel beautiful inside and out despite this pandemic," said Obias. COVID-19 might have wreaked havoc on our economy but I believe in the resilience of the Filipino. We practice social distancing in salon outlets to still cater to walk-in clients. We also installed several cashless payment options for clients.”

Established in 2004, with its main branch located in the of Timog, Quezon City, Mary Pauline Salon immediately attracted countless regular customers and several celebrities in the field. Young, professional stylists who have developed a particularly good grasp of hair and make-up trends have become its backbone personnel servicing clients with excellence and warm personal touch.

The success paved the way for last year's launch of Mary Pauline Skin that offered a complete set of beauty regimens from facial soap, toner, and day and night cream. Steps to distribute the set nationwide are being made with specialized hair care products coming to suit the clientele's diverse needs.

“To be able to succeed in this industry, you should be able to have a team to help make and implement the decisions needed,” added the lady entrepreneur.

In her case, she has a strong cast in Larry Asistin, a long- time colleague who manages Sir George Salon, COO Roquino who makes sure that the demands and needs of both the franchisees and clients are met, president of Mary Pauline Salon Group Franchisees Henry Narioka Lim who provides insights on the business, Atty. Maggie Abraham Garduque (of Abraham, Pimentel, and Acuna Law Office) for the legal inputs, and bookkeeper Chet Urmita.
