Make it Miko

Without prior professional experience working behind the camera, actor and Bidaman grand finalist Miko Gallardo has taken all his time learning the ropes while taping for the Pinoy BL, My Day. In fact, he has assisted in editing a few scenes for the trending digital drama.

“With the strict health protocols being implemented, only a few people can work on the set. So, we had to do double jobs acting in front of the camera and working behind the camera,” the 22-year-old actor told Manila Standard Entertainment in a recent virtual catch up on Kumu.

“I kind of enjoy editing some of the scenes we taped for the series. And our director is generous enough to allow us to improvise while doing our scenes. Sometimes, he would just tell us the situation using the sequence guide, and we would come up with our own dialogue. He wanted our responses to the situations in the drama to be as natural as possible,” he added.

Miko stars alongside Aki Torres in My Day, the Boys Love drama directed by Xion Lim and produced by Prime Event Productions Philippines Foundation Incorporated (PEPPS) in collaboration with Oxin Films. The digital series follows a young, determined culinary intern named Sky (Miko) making his way into a multi-billion-dollar food company where he encounters and wins the heart of his wicked boss Ace (Aki).

“It’s a challenging character to play given that this is the first time I’m portraying such a role. I’m trying to give my all to meet the high expectations of BL fans. We’re a bit nervous of course, but this is our chance to join the hype. We are working really hard,” Miko admitted.

“Going to a relationship with another guy as straight man is hard for me, but that’s what I prepared myself for. I tried to talk to my friends who are part of the LGBT community. I tried to absorb everything I have learned from them and applied them in the scenes that we do in My Day,” he shared.

While Miko and the series he’s part of joins in the Pinoy BL bandwagon, he hopes that the project would serve as his springboard for more mainstream roles. But he also doesn’t mind doing another BL series again, he just wanted to have another drama with a different story and character.

“As you can see, we are daring in this series. I wanted to prove that I’m serious about the things I do as an actor. I want the audience to see my capabilities as an actor,” Miko ends.
