It finally happened.

Derrick Lewis tallied the most KO/TKO in the UFC heavyweight division when he stopped Aleksei Oleinik in 21 seconds of the second round in the main event of UFC Fight Night at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada yesterday morning.

Lewis posted his 11th stoppage which pushed him out of a tie with Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos to become the UFC all-time leader.

“It’s crazy. I still can’t believe that I got the most knockouts. I don’t know. It’s just a crazy feeling. All the great heavyweights before me. Seeing Shane Carwin just knocking everybody out. And watching Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez. All those guys for all these years and then seeing that they never accomplished what I did. I just gotta be really humble about it. I gotta keep on going because I still got a left in the tank,” said Lewis in his post-fight interview.

Lewis charged forward in second round and connected with a flying knee which hit Oleinik in the chest. As Oleinik staggered Lewis threw a right hook which caught his opponent flush on the jaw.

Oleinik fell to the canvas and Lewis was on top of him immediately administered merciless ground and pound which forced the referee to stop the fight.

Lewis was in trouble in the first round when Oleinik held him by the neck and tried to force a submission. Lewis barely survived out of the first round. He said he came out firing in the second to avoid enduring another submission hold by Oleinik.

“It was pretty tight. At first I thought there was 30 seconds left. Then I heard 40 seconds left. Then I heard 35 seconds left. I’m like: ‘Damn.’ Then I started looking at him. Then I looked at (referee) Herb Dean and I heard the 10 second warning. Then that was it. I didn’t want to get back in that position again so that’s why I came back on in the second round and I wanted to finish him,” said Lewis.

In the co-main event, former UFC champion Chris Weidman returned to the middleweight division to post a hard-earned unanimous decision victory over Omari Ahkmedov.

Weidman controlled much of the first round with his wrestling. But he gassed and yielded the second round to Akhmedov who landed several strikes and even secured a pair of takedowns.

Weidman summoned all of his resolve to take control of the fight in the third through his superior grappling to carve out the unanimous decision victory.

In other fights of the main card Darren Stewart submitted Maki Pitolo in 3:41 of the first round. Yana Kunitskaya won by decision over Julija Stoliarenko.

In the most spectacular fight of the evening Beneil Darius shrugged off two eye pokes from Scott Holtzman to connect with a vicious spinning back fist to win by “walk off” knockout in the 4:38 of the first round.
