T-REX Entertainment’s Rex Tiri has confirmed that Prime Cruz’s Ngayon Kaya that his film company produced will not be in cinemas any time soon. It will be shown in summer, only this time, in 2021, and yes, still part of the Summer Metro Manila Summer Film Festival.

The pandemic prompted the good men of the MMDA to postpone plans for the festival that should have kicked off during Black Saturday of this year. Industry experts say that it’s one of the best opening dates for films to be shown in cinemas.

“Not for anything else, I think by next year, we all have, not only our bearings but all our groove back. And the feelings and mindset of everyone has changed by that time. We are back to the happy chaos we are all accustomed to and by that time, the pandemic has ended, it is safe to go out and watching movies in cinemas for entertainment and bonding time with families and loved ones is back as an enjoyable habit,” Tiri declares.

One of Tiri’s lead stars, Paulo Avelino, also serves as co-producer of this summer-loving motion picture with a lot of major feels. It makes me wonder what this film has for him to gamble and invest in it.

“I've seen most of Direk Prime Cruz' works and always wanted to work with him. Upon reading the script I instantly fell in love with the characters not just because of the conflict they're going through but also because it speaks about the ‘80s, the time when we were growing up,” Avelino shares.

Janine Gutierrez and Paulo Avelino starter 'Ngayon Kaya,' a film written by Jen Chuansu, from T-Rex Entertainment, is an official entry to the 2021 Summer Metro Manila Film Festival.

The devastatingly beautiful millennial who is not afraid to speak her mind on issues and current events, Janine Gutierrez is Avelino’s love interest in the much-awaited romantic drama. It cannot be denied that working with the actress is some kind of wonderful experience for him, for them.

“Janine, and her beauty aside, is a treat to work with, she is perfection personified. I have nothing bad to say about her work ethic and after seeing the films she has been doing lately, I can immediately tell that she is going out of her way to grow as an actress,” Avelino adds.

Asked if he had any kissing scenes with Gutierrez in the film, Avelino declares, “I always feel awkward doing intimate scenes no matter who my onscreen partner is and I'll probably never get used to it. And I am not making you bola about this, you know. Every time I do a kissing or intimate scene, the best preparation I could do, is to get the feel of the scene, being truthful to the emotions of my character and yes, brush my teeth.”

Why should we wait for and watch Ngayon Kaya then? Paulo’s concluding rejoinder: “Ngayon Kaya speaks about our age, our youth, and will most probably make us look back and ask ourselves, and get the answers to the many what ifs.”
