Mark “Tyson” Fairtex Abelardo vows to leave no stones unturned when he returns to the ONE Championship stage this friday.

The Filipino-Kiwi sensation takes on the debuting Fabrício “Wonder Boy” Andrade at ONE: NO SURRENDER on 31 July in Bangkok, Thailand in a 67-kilogram catchweight.

“It’s amazing, it’s good to be back, especially with competing,” Abelardo said.

“When ONE said they were going to come back and they announced the show, it was perfect. I wanted to get on it and I was like, let’s do it.”

Abelardo knows that this match is pretty crucial for him, especially since his last outing did not turn out the way he wanted to.

The 28-year-old lost to “Pretty Boy” Troy Worthen last February at ONE: KING OF THE JUNGLE where he got dominated from bell to bell owing to the American’s top notch wrestling.

While losing to Worthen halted his momentum, Abelardo understands that such setbacks are part of the sport he is in, and the only thing he can do now is learn from it and bounce back.

“It’s just like a small bump in the journey,” he stated.

“You know you can’t win them all, you just got to get better, prove yourself and put on a better performance in the next fight and that’s what I plan to do.”

Now he plans to take a page out of Worthen’s book and do what the American did to him in that match.

Given that Worthen’s wrestling and high motor gave him problems all night long, Abelardo has worked tirelessly since that loss to improve on those things.

Then he plans to vent his ire on the Brazilian hard-hitter.

“I’ll be looking to mix it all up, both standing and on the ground, just pressure him everywhere and just look to break him,” Abelardo shared.

“I want to utilize a lot of my wrestling, take him down when the opportunity comes and just wear him out and look from the finish from there.

“I want to look for a finish like I always do. Wear him down, put some pressure on him and look to finish him in the second or if not, the third.”

With the match drawing closer and closer, Abelardo sent a fair warning to his opponent – urging him to be ready come event night as he plans to bring the action the moment the Circle door closes.

“I wish him all the best and for him to keep safe during training camp because when the fight comes I am gonna bring it so I hope [he’s] ready.”
