The Arellano University Chiefs, getting 17 points from Jesrael Liberato, moved closer to a Final Four spot in the 95th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s volleyball tournament.

This was made possible when the Chiefs repulsed the Letran Knights in straight sets, 25-22, 25-12, 25-17, yesterday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

With Meneses scoring on 14 attacks and three kill blocks, the Chiefs moved to third seed with their 5-2 win-loss card.

“‘Di muna namin iniisip ang standing namin, next game muna ang iisipin namin. Siyempre every game napakaimportante ngayon,” said Chiefs’ coach Sherwin Meneses.

The Chiefs, who needed 63 minutes to wrap it up, also got big plays from Christian Segovia, who chipped in 12 markers, built on five of his team’s 14 blocks.

Letran fell behind at 1-5.

In women’s action, the Lady Chiefs turned back the Lady Knights, 25-14, 26-28, 25-19, 25-16, and moved to within range of the top berth in the Final Four.

The Lady Chiefs notched their sixth win in seven matches in second place.

“Nanalo ka pero hindi gaano kasaya kasi madami pa ring lapses ‘yung team,” said coach Obet Javier on the Lady Chiefs’ inconsistencies in the game.

Regine Arocha came through with 19 points, including three service aces.

Arellano University extended its perfect juniors’ run to seven with a 25-12, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20 triumph over Letran.
