‘World’s friendliest airport’ just got bigger, brighter

With the President were  Senator Bong Go, presidential assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines deputy director-general Donaldo Mendoza, Department of Tourism 7 director Shalimar Tamano, Lapu-Lapu City mayor Junard Chan, Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) general manager and CEO Steve Dicdican, Megawide chairman Edgar Saavedra, GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) president Louie Ferrer, and GMCAC chief executive advisor Andrew Acquaah-Harrison.

Designed by Manila-based architectural firm Budji + Royal Design, Terminal 1 features a resort-type design complementing the overall branding of MCIA as the “world’s friendliest resort airport.”

The renovation is part of the P17 B investment made by GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC) to improve the services and facilities of both Terminals 1 and 2 at the MCIA.  Ferrer said Terminal 1 can now accommodate up to 11 million passengers every year from eight million per year. Along with the 4.1 million passengers being accommodated by Terminal 2, the two terminals at MCIA can now accommodate 15.1 million passengers a year.
