The House of Representatives has commended Quezon City 5th District Rep. Alfred Vargas for being named as one of the country’s “The Outstanding Young Men” for 2019 by the Junior Chamber International Philippines and TOYM Foundation Inc.
In a House Resolution authored by House Majority Floor Leader Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, the House of Representatives has expressed its deep sense of pride for Vargas who is this year’s TOYM Awardee for Public Service.
“The House of Representatives proudly join the Junior Chamber International- Philippines Inc. and the TOYM Foundation Inc. in congratulating our colleague Representative Alfred D. Vargas who has proven his valuable public service to the Filipino people as acknowledged by the distinguished award giving body,” the resolution said.
“Now therefore, be it resolved, as it is hereby resolved by the House of Representatives to congratulate and commended our colleague Representatives Alfred D. Vargas for being awarded as one of ‘The Outstanding Young Men’ (TOYM) of the Philippines 2019 by the Junior Chamber International-Philippines Inc., and TOYM Foundation,” it added.
The TOYM awards is an annual project organized and presented by the JCI Philippines, also known as Philippine Jaycess and the TOYM Foundation Inc., since 1959. The award “seeks to recognize young men and women whose selfless dedication to their profession and fields of endeavor significantly contributed to Philippine society thereby benefitting the Filipino people.”
“Representative Alfred D. Vargas if the fifth district of Quezon City will join the ranks of the most outstanding Filipinos who have been honored by the JCI Philippines throughout the past 60 years,” the House Resolution said.
Vargas, who is on his last term as congressman has earned the most covered TOYM award for his unrelenting crusade to fight the dreaded cancer and pushed for the accessibility of cancer treatment for less fortunate Filipinos.
“He has consistently and actively participated in charity events and medical assistances, made personal donations, and has given inspiring talks to cancer patients and their families. Moreover, he is one of the principal authors of Republiv Act 11215, otherwise known as the National Integrated Cancer Control Act, which provide, among others, for free cancer treatment for the poor,” the resolution said.
