Cavite holds seminar on seniors’ laws

To elaborate and review the benefits and privileges of a Filipino Centenarian and senior citizens, the Provincial Government of Cavite conducted an Orientation Seminar on Laws for Senior Citizens recently at the Cavite Collaboration Center for Public Health Auditorium at Trece Martires City.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and the Provincial Council for the Elderly spearheaded the event.

Ciriaco Angeles, Regional Federation president of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines (Region IV-A) warmly welcomed all the participants. Provincial Administrator for Community Affairs Alvin S. Mojica reiterated the continuous support given by the provincial government led by Governor Jonvic Remulla for the implementation of programs and activities intended for the senior citizens.

During the program, Cefronia A. Majuello of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region IV A discussed the salient features of the Republic Act 10868.

RA 10868 is the Act Honoring and Granting Additional Benefits and Privileges to Filipino Centenarians, and for Other Purposes, also known as the Centenarians Act of 2016, while RA 9994 is An Act Granting Additional Benefits and Privileges to Senior Citizens.

Majuello also tackled RA 7432, “An Act to Maximize the Contribution of Senior Citizens to Nation Building, Grant Benefits, and Special Privileges and For Other Purposes.”

She emphasized that the social pension should only be given to an indigent senior citizen who has no regular income. The grant will be additional government assistance to senior citizens to augment their daily maintenance and other medical needs. Benjamin Chavez

Meanwhile, Wilfred B. Quezon, School Administrator of Magallanes Western Cavite Institute Inc., clarified the roles and functions of OSCA Head and Federation of Senior Citizens in the local government unit and the community.

Officers and members of the Senior Citizens Federation of the different cities and municipalities in the province, Social Worker Officers and staff and other municipal and provincial government employees attended the orientation.
