It’s the dream that sealed Vanjoss’ ‘The Voice Kids’ victory

Vanjoss Bayaban had his eyes on the prize not because he wanted fame. It’s given that it’s his desire to become a singer but his real dream was to bring his mom, who’s working in Hong Kong, back home.

Speaking to some select members of the entertainment press, the 12-year-old crooner was holding his glass trophy at the backstage of Resorts World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theater when he thanked the people who supported his journey on the fourth season of The Voice Kids Philippines.

“I’d like to thank my coach, my family, and the people who spent time using their mobile phones voting through text and online to put me on the top spot,” Vanjoss said in vernacular. “I wouldn’t have made this far with them.”

Vanjoss,12, performs 'You Raise Me Up' during the finals of The Voice Kids Philippines season 4 held at Resorts World Manila's Newport Performing Arts Theater.

Asked if his mom, who took a vacation leave just to see her kid perform live on the Newport stage, would still return to Hong Kong, the young lad beamed, “I would be happy if she stayed.”

“When I first won P2000 from a singing contest I told my mom to come back home. She said it wasn’t enough. Then, when I won P20,000, she explained that she’s working overseas because she wanted us, her children, to have a bright future, so she said she’s staying there for the time being. Now, I have P2 million, I really wish that my mom would consider staying home for good,” Vanjoss told Manila Standard

In the two-day finals, Vanjoss wooed viewers by performing “Habang May Buhay” with coach Sarah Geronimo and “Titanium” in the upbeat showstoppers round, and a towering version of “You Raise Me Up” for his power ballad.

As the newest and fourth The Voice Kids grand champion, apart from the P2 million cash, Vanjoss took won a recording and management contract with MCA Music, and a house and lot from Camella worth P2 million.
