DOH sets five-day mental health training

The Department of Health-CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) started a five-day training for two batches on “Mental Health Global Action Program (mhGAP) Version 2” for municipal health workers, nurses and pharmacists of the region to bridge the gap between available resources and the significant need for services held at Ciudad Christhia Resort in San Mateo, Rizal.

“This training will allow health workers the tool to effectively manage and provide treatment to persons with mental, neurological and substance use (MNS) disorders using algorithm for clinical decision making as mandated by the WHO mhGAP in non-specialized setting,” Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo said.

 “We need to organize programs for our health system especially now we have the universal health care law,” said Janairo.

He cited the need to boost our primary health care to give the needy all services, including mental health services and sustainability in medicines.

According to the DOH-CALABARZON 2019 master list of persons with mental illnesss, there are a total of 2,663 individuals with mental health concerns in the region.
