Shell Philippines Exploration B.V. wants the Department of Energy to act on its long-pending request to extend the Malampaya service contract once it expires in 2024.
Spex, operator and member of the SC 38 consortium, submitted a letter request for extension to the department late last year.
“The request for extension was submitted and its something for the government to decide. It’s a matter ultimately for the Department of Energy to discuss and inform the Malampaya consortium on what it intends to do on the extension,” said Kiril Caral, Spex laywer, during a two-day conference.
Other members of the consortium are Chevron Malampaya LLC and PNOC Exploration Corp.
“So we continue to be very interested in investing in upstream in the Philippines…," said Caral, adding the contract provided for a 15-year extension.
