Caravan rolls with Hyundai taking the spear

Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. expressed support for the government’s PUV Modernization Program by taking the Class 1 Hyundai Modern Jeepney on the first Modern PUV Caravan Motorcade from Quezon Memorial Circle to Clark, Pampanga last July 4. 

The Caravan, which will run until February 2020, will travel the Philippines in four phases. Phase 1 commenced in SM City Clark in Pampanga and will move on to hit key cities and municipalities in North Luzon until August. 

Phase 2 will begin in  September and traverse Southern Luzon; Phase 3, in November, will travel through the Visayas; finally, Phase 4 will hit Mindanao between January and February 2020.

HARI President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo said, “We laud the government for organizing this ambitious and important multi-sectoral Caravan. HARI is proud to participate in this program that will reach Filipinos across the country and communicate to them the benefits of modernizing our public transport system.”

The Modern PUV Caravan, with the theme Arangkada ng Pagbabago Tungo sa Kaunlaran, is a joint undertaking of the public and private sectors. Its main objective is to introduce the vehicles participating in the PUV Modernization Program to potential participants and transport groups outside Metro Manila. Government partners also aim to use the caravan to address the transport and mobility concerns of Filipinos across the country. 

First stop: Clark. The Hyundai Modern Jeepney, HARI’s Class 1 entry to the government’s PUV Modernization program, during the July 4 motorcade from Quezon Memorial Circle to Clark. The Modern Jeepney seats the driver and 12 passengers and is fully compliant with PUV Modernization Program specifications 

Hyundai’s Class 1 Modern Jeepney features a modified H-100 body running on a 2.5L CRDi Euro 4-compliant engine. The vehicle seats the driver and up to 12 passengers and features 6-speed manual transmission. The Modern Jeepney is fully compliant with  PUV Modernization Program specifications, sporting an automated fee collection system (AFCS), CCTV, GPS tracker, LED signage, WiFi capability, and a speed limiter/buzzer. It is assembled in partnership with Centro Manufacturing Corporation. 

Government partners participating in the PUV Caravan include the Department of Transportation, the Land Transportation and Franchise Regulatory Board, Land Transportation Office, Office of Transport Cooperatives, Development Bank of the Philippines, and Landbank of the Philippines. 

Meanwhile, private organizations taking part in the Caravan are the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc., the Truck Manufacturers Association, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc., the Automotive Body Manufacturers Association of the Philippines, the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines, the Philippines Part Maker Association, and companies supplying technology such as Wi-Fi modules and AFCS.
